BJP ignores Bittu for Rajya Sabha
The BJP ignored union minister of State for Railway Ravneet Bittu for a Rajya Sabha seat, leaving the political experts amused on Bittu's future. Since, the elections are due in Punjab early next year, Bittu could be sent to Punjab to contest the state elections.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's recently took a jibe at Bittu and predicted that the former MP won't be re-nominated to the upper house of the Indian parliament.
Bittu's exclusion from the BJP's Rajya Sabha list has sparked debate about the party's approach to Sikh representation in Punjab. The development comes shortly after the BJP appointed former legislator Kewal Singh Dhillon as its Punjab unit president, elevating another Sikh leader within the party while sidelining Bittu from parliamentary politics.
The move represents a dramatic shift in fortunes for Bittu, the grandson of former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh. After leaving the Congress party and joining the BJP in 2024, Bittu was widely viewed as a high-profile Punjab leader capable of strengthening the party's position in Punjab.
Bittu first won the MP elections in 2004 from Anandpur Sahib constituency and repeated the victory in 2009. He was then shifted to Ludhiana and again elected to the parliament in 2014.
