SAD Chief Badal demands FIR against Mann under new anti-Sacrilege Act
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal Wednesday demand for registration of an FIR against Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann under the state's recently enacted anti-sacrilege law, alleging that Mann had disrespected Sikh religious institutions.
Mann rejected the allegations on Tuesday, saying the person seen in a controversial video at the centre of the dispute was not him.
Badal convened a meeting of party's core committee and demanded registration of an FIR saying that Mann had not only committed an alleged act of sacrilege but had also challenged the authority of the Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of Sikhism.
Calling the matter “very serious,” Badal said Mann no longer had the moral authority to remain chief minister and should face action under the anti-sacrilege legislation introduced by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in May.
The remarks came after Akal Takht Jathedar Kuldeep Singh Gargaj on Monday reportedly declared Mann a “Guru dokhi” (betrayer of the Guru) and “Panth virodhi” (opponent of the Sikh community).
