Sonam Wangchuk Calls Release Under NSA a ‘Victory,’ Urges Dialogue on Ladakh Issues
Social activist Sonam Wangchuk has termed his release from detention under the National Security Act (India) (NSA) as a “victory” for his movement, in his first interaction with the media following his release.
Addressing a press conference alongside his wife Geetanjali Wangchuk, Wangchuk said the development marks a positive step toward building trust and initiating meaningful dialogue with the people of Ladakh.
He emphasized that the purpose of their movement was solely to open channels for peaceful discussions. “Often, people take up arms and then governments call for dialogue. Here, people were peacefully asking for talks,” he said.
Wangchuk further stated that he would soon travel to Ladakh to consult with leaders of the Leh Apex Body and the Kargil Democratic Alliance to plan the next course of action.
He reiterated that constructive engagement and dialogue remain the key objectives of the movement, and expressed hope that this step would pave the way for resolving ongoing concerns in the region.
