Twisha Sharma death: Husband in police custody
Police in Jabalpur on Friday took into custody Samarth Singh, the husband of late actor and model Twisha Sharma, after he surrendered before a district court in connection with her alleged dowry-related death.
Samarth Singh’s lawyer, Jaideep Kaurav, said that Singh was taken to the nearby Umrati police station and would later be handed over to police in Bhopal.
Singh, a lawyer by profession, had earlier withdrawn his anticipatory bail plea filed before the Madhya Pradesh High Court. He appeared before the district court Friday evening to surrender to authorities.
Police had been searching for Singh since an FIR, was filed against him and his mother, former district judge Giribala Singh, following Sharma’s death on May 12.
Family members of Sharma and their lawyers were also present outside the court during the proceedings.
Sharma, 33, a model-turned-actor was found hanging at her in-laws’ residence in the Katara Hills area of Bhopal on May 12.
Her family has accused her husband and in-laws of harassment over dowry demands and abetment of suicide.
