Around 9,000 Indians Currently Living in Iran, Government Informs Parliament
The Government of India on Thursday informed Parliament that around 9,000 Indian nationals are currently residing in Iran.
In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, Kirti Vardhan Singh said the Indian Embassy has advised citizens living in Iran to remain extremely cautious, closely monitor local developments, and stay in regular contact with the embassy.
The minister said that in view of the war-like situation in West Asia, the Indian government has established a special control room in New Delhi to monitor the situation and assist Indian nationals.
In addition, the Embassy of India in Tehran has launched emergency helpline numbers and email services to provide immediate assistance to Indians in need.
The government also said that Indian citizens who wish to return home are being assisted by the embassy in crossing borders and making travel arrangements.
Authorities have been issuing advisories from time to time, urging Indians to avoid travelling to Iran unless absolutely necessary due to the evolving security situation.
