Air India to Increase Ticket Prices Amid Rising Fuel Costs
Air India has announced an increase in ticket prices for both domestic and international flights due to rising aviation fuel costs. The airline said the decision was taken after a sharp rise in jet fuel prices triggered by ongoing geopolitical tensions and conflict in West Asia.
According to the airline’s statement, Air India and Air India Express will introduce a fuel surcharge of ₹399 on every domestic flight ticket starting March 12.
For international flights, the airline has also revised the fuel surcharge. Passengers traveling to West Asia will pay an additional $10, while those flying to Southeast Asia and Singapore will be charged $60 extra. Flights to Africa will carry an additional $90 surcharge.
The airline group said the move was necessary due to the rapid rise in jet fuel prices caused by geopolitical instability in the Gulf region.
Other airlines such as IndiGo, SpiceJet, and Akasa Air have not yet announced similar increases. However, experts believe that continued volatility in crude oil prices due to the conflict in West Asia could push other airlines to raise fares as well, making air travel more expensive in the coming weeks
