The union cabinet Tuesday approved the request of Kerala government to change the name of Kerala to Keralam. The cabinet will now send the proposal to the President following which the state's name will be changed.

The State government had sent the request to the union government in June 2024 to change the state's name. 

Kerala is one of the most developed states in the country and has the highest literacy rate.
