BC Highway Patrol is asking motorists to drive more safely, and avoid the hassle and expense of tickets, as fire-related closures of Highway 97 force detours in the Cariboo Region.

“Highway #24 is typically a low-volume rural corridor, and it’s not designed for a lot of traffic going fast,” says Sergeant Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol. “We’re trying to prevent collisions here, so BC Highway Patrol officers are increasing our presence on #24 alongside Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE) officers.”

 Police are particularly focussed on stopping excessing speeding, impaired driving, distracted driving, and unsafe passing.

 “No matter if you’re a local or just passing through, we want to keep things safe and efficient,” says Sergeant McLaughlin. “We’re asking everyone to be patient, focussed and alert. We don’t need any more tragedy in this region.”
