Punjabi influencer alleges racism in Ontario gym
A video showing a prominent Sikh content creator being asked to leave a Windsor fitness facility has reignited a national debate surrounding religious freedoms, private property rights, and public safety.
Gurpartap Singh Khalsa, a popular TikTok influencer, recorded and shared his interaction with staff at a gym on Dougall Avenue. In the footage, an employee tells Khalsa that another gym member raised concerns after noticing he was carrying a kirpan—a ceremonial blade worn by practicing Sikhs as a fundamental article of faith.
The employee asked Khalsa to exit the building, citing safety concerns for staff and members, and noted that the facility operates as a private business with the right to deny access. Khalsa disputed the decision during the exchange, arguing that the request amounted to racial and religious discrimination.
The incident has divided public opinion online. While some social media users defended the gym's internal safety policies regarding bladed objects in a workout environment, others point out that the kirpan is a constitutionally protected religious symbol under Canadian law, intended to represent justice and protection rather than a weapon.
