Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrapped up a high-profile tour of northern India on Friday, unveiling more than 10 billion rupees (approximately $160 million CAD) in infrastructure, green energy, and healthcare developments across Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh.

In Haryana's Jind district, Modi flagged off the "NaMo Green Rail," India’s first domestically built, hydrogen-powered train. Operating on the 89-kilometre Jind-Sonipat route, the near-zero-emission pilot project represents a major step toward decarbonizing one of the world's largest rail networks.

 In Punjab, Modi officially inaugurated the newly redeveloped Jalandhar Cantt railway station. Refurbished under the federal Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, the facility now features airport-like passenger amenities, including escalators, digital lockers, and fully accessible walkways.

 In the union territory of Chandigarh, the Prime Minister announced federal approval for a new MBBS medical college at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER). He also inaugurated two state-of-the-art facilities at the campus: the Advanced Mother and Child Centre and the Advanced Neurosciences Centre.

Speaking to crowds in Chandigarh, Modi emphasized that the region's geographic position makes it a vital hub, noting that investments in its local healthcare and transit infrastructure directly benefit millions of residents in the neighboring states of Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh.
