Man arrested for assault, drug possession day after arrest for trafficking
A 40-year-old man arrested for suspected drug trafficking on Commercial Drive June 23 and released from custody on an undertaking to appear, was re-arrested June 24 for assaulting another man in the Downtown Eastside.
Vancouver Police on routine patrol in the 100-block of East Hastings witnessed the suspect put another man in a headlock and punch him in the head. The suspect was arrested after a brief struggle.
He was searched and officers found he was carrying two bags of suspected crystal meth, two bags of suspected fentanyl, and three throwing-star knives.
The victim walked away from the scene and has not been found.
The suspect was taken to jail, the drugs and knives were seized, and drug samples have been sent for analysis. The man was released from custody June 25 on condition he report to a bail supervisor, not possess weapons, knives or drug paraphernalia, and not to be in an area bound by Columbia, Pender, Carrall, and Cordova streets.
