North Vancouver RCMP investigate fatal collision

North Vancouver RCMP are investigating a fatal collision at the intersection of West 1st Street and MacKay Road in North Vancouver.

On June 29, at approximately 7:45 a.m., North Vancouver RCMP received several reports of a serious collision involving a cyclist and commercial vehicle at the intersection of West 1st Street and MacKay Road. Frontline officers along with paramedics attended the scene and rendered first aid to the cyclist. The cyclist was taken to the hospital where she was sadly pronounced deceased. The cyclist is being identified as a woman in her 60s from Vancouver.

Initial information provided by witnesses indicate the commercial vehicle was making a left turn from West 1st Street onto MacKay Road to travel northbound when the collision occurred. The commercial vehicle had a green light at the time. The cyclist was travelling northbound, attempting to cross West 1st Street from the south side of the intersection when the collision took place.

“This was a tragic incident resulting in the loss of life,” said Corporal Mansoor Sahak, Media Relations Officer for the North Vancouver RCMP. “The RCMP are conducting a thorough investigation and are working with partner agencies including Integrated Collision Analyst Reconstruction Service (ICARS) to determine what happened.”

Anyone who witnessed or has video of the collision is asked to contact the North Vancouver RCMP at 604 985 1311 and quote file 26-13164.
