RCMP arrests sexual assault victim
West Shore RCMP Thursday arrested the sexual assault suspect. The suspect was involved in an incident in the area of Jacklin Road and Station Avenue in Langford.
The incident was reported to have occurred on June 9, at approximately 3:00 p.m. in the area of Jacklin Road and Station Avenue in Langford. A female youth was reportedly approached by an unknown adult male suspect at a bus stop who engaged the youth in a short conversation before sexually assaulting her.
Since the report, West Shore RCMP Serious Crime Unit investigators have worked to progress the investigation and identify the suspect. On June 17, officers from the Serious Crimes Unit identified and arrested a 33-year-old male in relation to the sexual assault.
“We extend our sincere thanks to the public and the businesses who provided timely information and assistance. The collective efforts of our investigators and community members allowed us to identify and locate the unknown suspect within six days,” said Acting Sgt. Meghan Groulx with the Serious Crime Unit.
While no physical injuries were reported in this instance, investigators recognize the significant emotional and psychological impact sexual violence can have on victims.
There have been no similar reports of this nature and the investigation remains ongoing. No further information will be released at this time.
