SPS Investigating Shooting at a Residence, police believe incident related to extortion

Surrey Police Service (SPS) is investigating an early morning shooting outside a South Newton residence.

On June 4, at approximately 4:02 am, SPS Frontline officers responded to reports of a shooting outside a residence in the area of 57 Avenue and 148 Street in Surrey. Upon arrival, police noted evidence of shots fired. The residence was occupied at the time of the shooting and fortunately no one was injured.

The investigation is in its early stages; however, it is believed to be extortion related due to previous threats and a shots fired incident outside the residence on May 20.

SPS’s Extortion Response Team (ExRT) has taken over the lead on the investigation, and the Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IFIS) will be in the area processing physical and digital evidence.
