Man arrested for sexual assault in Burnaby
A 32-year-old man was arrested an hour after an alleged sex assault in South Burnaby last week.
On Friday, May 29, just after 8:00 a.m., Burnaby RCMP frontline officers responded to a report of a sexual assault in the 5500-block of Lane Street, near Elgin Avenue. The victim reported that a man approached her from behind and grabbed her buttocks before running away.
Multiple Burnaby RCMP officers attended the area in search of the suspect. Officers alerted Metrotown Security of the incident, and with their assistance the suspect was located and arrested just under an hour after the original call came in.
“This type of crime can be traumatizing. The victim in this case gave police every advantage in locating the suspect with her quick response and call to 911.” said Insp. Sushile Sharma, Burnaby RCMP’s Assistant Operations Officer. “Metrotown Security, as always, was ready to assist when we needed them.
