Punjab speaker Sandhwan concedes for failure to eradicate drug crisis

Punjab Legislative Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan has publicly conceded that the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has failed to fulfill its campaign guarantee to eradicate the state's severe drug crisis.

Addressing a public gathering during a "Lok Milni" outreach program in his home constituency of Kotkapura, Sandhwan acknowledged that while the administration has delivered on most of its election commitments, synthetic drugs—known locally as chitta—remain a persistent scourge.

"Standing among mothers and sisters, I must confess that we could not fulfill our guarantee to eliminate chitta," Sandhwan said.

However, the Speaker maintained that authorities continue to wage a resolute fight against the illegal trade. He emphasized that unlike under previous administrations, political figures—from local municipal councillors to state ministers and the chief minister—are no longer shielding or patronizing drug traffickers.
