Punjab records 70 Swine Flu cases

Punjab has recorded 70 cases of H1N1 swine flu this month, but health officials say there is no cause for panic.

Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh stated that monthly cases remained in the single digits from January through July, but saw a sharp uptick in August following a surge in nearby Delhi.

Singh clarified that the infections stem from an older, mild strain of the virus. No patients have required hospitalization so far, with individuals being discharged for home recovery following routine medical evaluations.

High humidity levels during this time of year have created ideal conditions for viral transmission, according to the minister.

He assured the public that hospitals and health centres are fully equipped with testing and treatment resources. However, high-risk groups—including pregnant women, the elderly, individuals with compromised immune systems, and those with pre-existing conditions—are advised to avoid crowded places.
