Pierre Poilievre, Leader of Opposition and the Conservative Party of Canada, call for a plan before the new tariffs imposed by the US come to effect on August 19. 

“The President’s threat yesterday of new and additional tariffs on Canada is unjustified and wrong, especially considering that Mexico is not facing these new tariffs. They will raise prices on Americans and hurt Canadian workers. Canadians deserve better treatment from our neighbours," Poilievre said. 

Stating further, he said, “Conservatives call on the President to reverse these threats, remove tariffs and restore free trade. Doing so will boost incomes and lower costs for consumers. 

Poilievre asserted, “We need a plan to fight these new tariffs before they take effect on August 19, . All parties must work together to prevent the tariffs from happening. Conservatives are here to help and fight for Canada." 

“That is why Conservatives are calling for the International Trade Committee to convene to hear the government’s plan to prevent these new tariffs from taking effect and to fight for tariff-free trade. We are also seeking a meeting of the Government Operations Committee on the recent deal to share toll revenues on the Gordie Howe Bridge," he added.

Calling on the unity, Poilievre said, “Our mission is to work together for Canadian workers and tariff-free trade. Canada must be strong at home so we have unbreakable leverage abroad."

“That means unblocking pipelines, LNG plants, port expansions and other privately-funded infrastructure to reach world markets. It means unblocking our resources and committing to a Strategic Energy and Minerals Reserve that is available to allies who have agreed to provide tariff-free market access. It also means a Tariff-Free Auto Pact that allows automakers to sell a car in Canada, duty-free, for every car produced here." he stated.
