RCMP to close school due to firearm call
On July 9, at approximately 11:15am, Maple Ridge RCMP responded to a report of an individual with a weapon in the 23000 block of 116 Avenue.
Officers immediately attended the area and located an individual on scene who was in possession of an imitation firearm. The 16-year-old youth suspect was subsequently apprehended and taken into custody by police. No injuries were reported.
There is no ongoing risk to the public at this time.
The incident is still under investigation as officers continue to take statements and determine the exact circumstances.
Out of an abundance of caution, Thomas Haney Secondary School was placed in a hold and secure for a short duration of time.
