Opposition demands opening of bars and restaurants outside regular hours
The opposition Conservative party in BC asked the provincial government to allow bars and restaurants to serve alcohol outside regular hours.
As Team Canada continues its historic run at the World Cup, outgoing Interim Leader of the Opposition Trevor Halford is calling on the B.C. government to permit bars and restaurants to serve alcohol outside regular hours.
“As we celebrate Canada’s participation in the World Cup, it makes sense to allow bars and restaurants to serve alcohol earlier than usual,” said Halford. “Canada’s next game is in the morning, and businesses should be able to apply for a temporary license that would allow them to serve prior to game time. Similar exemptions during hockey games at the Olympics and World Juniors have set the precedent for this policy. This is a chance for Canadians to come together to cheer our team on, and an economic opportunity for B.C. bars and restaurants.”
“We are all proud of what Team Canada has already accomplished, “said Kerry-Lynne Findlay, Leader of the Conservative Party of B.C. “And I hope that this temporary rule change will allow British Columbians to keep on celebrating this terrific occasion.”
