Officer injured after alleged assault during traffic enforcement operation

A North Vancouver RCMP officer is recovering following an unprovoked assault during a routine traffic stop.

On June 12, 2026, at approximately 5:00 p.m., a North Vancouver RCMP officer was conducting speed enforcement on Low Level Road when they initiated a traffic stop with a black Toyota for allegedly travelling at an excessive speed.

During the interaction, the driver attempted to leave the scene prior to being served with documents and failed to comply with police direction. While at the roadside, it is alleged the driver struck the officer multiple times during a physical altercation.

With the assistance of passersby and additional officers, the suspect was safely taken into custody. The officer was transported to hospital with minor injuries and has since been released and is recovering at home.

The suspect is facing multiple charges including Assaulting a Police officer and Obstruction of a Peace Officer.

The North Vancouver RCMP would like to thank the two passersby who stopped and assisted the officer, helping to prevent further assault.

“This is another reminder of the risk our officers face each day to serve and protect the citizens of North Vancouver,” said Corporal Mansoor Sahak, Media Relations Officer for the North Vancouver RCMP. “Despite the dangers, our officers remain committed to ensuring public safety. We are grateful that our injured officer is recovering, and we appreciate the ongoing support from the community.
