Modi urges states to resolve water sharing issues with co-operation
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday urged all the states to resolve inter-state water disputes through cooperation, timely approvals and technology-based monitoring, saying the Ken-Betwa Link Project should serve as a model for future collaboration.
Chairing the 51st PRAGATI meeting, Modi reviewed seven major infrastructure projects worth nearly 300 billion rupees involving the railway, power and road sectors across nine states.
Modi called on states to work together on river-linking initiatives, water conservation measures, groundwater recharge and improvements to irrigation systems to ensure long-term water security.
He highlighted the Ken-Betwa Link Project — a river interlinking initiative between Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh — as an example of how states can cooperate to address water-sharing and development challenges.
The PRAGATI platform, launched in 2015, is used by the prime minister to monitor major infrastructure and governance projects through digital coordination between the federal and state governments.
