A new neighbourhood park is moving ahead on the border of Kitsilano and Fairview after the city’s park board approved a concept plan for the Burrard Slopes site.

Commissioners with the Vancouver Park Board gave the green light to develop a one-hectare park aimed at adding green space in one of the city’s fastest-growing areas.

The future park will include a dog off-leash area, central lawn, meadow walk, skateboard and small-wheels zone, fitness area, playground expansion, washroom facilities and accessible pathways.

Park Board chair Tom Digby said the project is needed as population growth accelerates in the area, particularly with ongoing development tied to the Broadway Plan.

“Kitsilano and Fairview are two of the fastest growing neighbourhoods in Vancouver,” Digby said, adding the park will offer space for recreation, community gatherings and cultural activities.

The design was shaped through consultations with local First Nations, businesses and residents, with feedback emphasizing the need for both active and passive recreation.

Plans call for a large central lawn for informal use and small events, an accessible playground with inclusive equipment, and an enclosed dog area separated from other park spaces. A plaza-style skate spot will be built with surrounding planted berms to reduce noise and improve safety.

The park footprint was expanded in 2025 after the Park Board acquired additional land at 5th Avenue and Fir Street, allowing for more amenities, including outdoor fitness equipment.

Landscaping will feature pollinator-friendly and rain gardens with native and adaptive plants.

Detailed design work is set to begin next, with construction targeted for 2027. An official name for the park will be determined through a separate public naming process.
