Jalandhar: A drunk car driver tried reportedly attempted to run over the cops at the police naka outside the mall at night. After this, the drunk youth was created a mayhem outside the PPR mall on Wednesday night.
The car driver, identified as Akhil Sharma, was in inebriated condition abused women and senior police officers.
After exchanging heated arguments with the cops, he even reportedly manhandled IPS officer ADCP Jalandhar Aditya. After this, he was thrashed cop cops on the spot and later detained him.
The young man who created a ruckus was calling himself a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
DCP Jagmohan Singh said that accused Akhil Sharma of Guru Gobind Singh Avenue, also tried to drive away the vehicle in which many people escaped unhurt. Akhil then manhandled and misbehaved with police officers and staff, he said.
DCP said that the arrested youth was also medically examined at the Civil Hospital and he was found to be drunk.
The accused has been booked under sections 353, 186, 332, 333 of the Indian Penal Code for assaulting a public servant or officer to cause harm and obstructing him in his work, 294 of the IPC for using abusive language in public place, making obscene abuses and section 506 of the IPC for threatening public servants and officials by showing his influence.
