Patiala: A 32-year-old woman was shot dead by a devotee in the Dukhniwaran Sahib Gurdwara complex at Patiala on Sunday night. The incident took around 10 pm, police said.
It is alleged that the woman was intoxicated and consuming alochol near the Sarovar. A gurdwara sewadar who had objected to woman near Sarovar was also injured in the firing.
The accused has been identified as Nirmaljit Singh, a resident of Patiala, has been arrested.
The deceased woman was identified as Parvinder Kaur (32). According to police, devotees were trying to take the woman to the gurdwara manager’s room for questioning when she attacked the gurdwara sewadars with a bottle of alcohol.
Following this, the accused Nirmaljit opened five shots from his licensed revolver. The woman received three bullet injuries, while Sewadar Sagar Kumar also received one bullet injury. The woman died on the spot. Sagar was taken to Rajindra Hospital where he is undergoing treatment. He was shot in the stomach.
A case of murder and attempt to murder has been registered against the accused, the SHO of Anaj Mandi police station said. The revolver of the accused has also been seized. According to sources, the accused surrendered after the murder. The police are scanning the CCTV footage to verify the facts.
According to the information, the accused had recently underwent divorce with his former wife and was a regular to the gurdwara.
