Penticton: The RCMP have arrested two suspects for attempting carjacking.
On Tuesday, a person from Killarney St told the police that at approximately 6:00 pm, a man and a woman tried to steal his vehicle.
However, the suspects could not succeed in their motive as the person confronted them.
After a short time, another resident of Killarney St reported to the RCMP that a man and a woman had allegedly pointed a firearm at a driver with an intent to steal the vehicle.
The RCMP said the suspects remained unsuccessful in stealing the vehicle and left the area.
“With assistance from the public, frontline and plainclothes officers, who were supported by the Southeast District’s Emergency Response Team, and Police Dog Services, arrested a man and a woman near Government Street and Carmi Avenue,” the RCMP said in a statement on Wednesday.
A 48-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman, both local residents, were taken into custody.
“Thankfully, no one was physically harmed during these disturbing incidents”, said Cpl. James Grandy. “With the immediate and effective deployment of policing resources, including officers from Summerland, the suspects were safely apprehended, along with a firearm,” he added.
