Chandigarh: A new battle for the post of Director General of Police (DGP) has again started in Punjab. Leave of DGP appointed VK Bhawra will be over on September. He did not extend the leave any further. He had gone on leave after the murder of Sidhu Moosewala.

In such a situation, he will assure charge as the DGP where the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of Punjab has appointed Gaurav Yadav as acting DGP.

Sources said that in view of this, the AAP government has started putting pressure on VK Bhawra. A notice has reportedly also been issued to him for not taking necessary action on time on Intelligence Alerts in Moosewala’s murder.

However, no official comment is on this from VK Bhawra or Punjab Police.

VK Bhawra was appointed DGP by the previous Congress government. He was appointed after a panel from UPSC. He remained in this post even after the formation of the Aam Aadmi Party government.

However, after the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala on 29 May, an atmosphere was created against the AAP government. AAP lost the Sangrur election following which Bhawra went on leave.

He even applied for Central Deputation before going to leave. Now he will join on 4 September.
