Chandigarh: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has initiated a probe against sacked police officer Rajjit Singh in a disproportionate assets case. A senior vigilance official said that the government has forwarded the necessary letter to the Bureau for investigation against Rajjit Singh and the investigation in the matter will be completed soon.
The Punjab government had recently ordered the dismissal of Rajjit Singh from service. The government has also issued a look-out circular for Rajjit so that he would not flee abroad to avoid the ongoing inquiry against him.
The SIT reports had brought to the fore the facts of the sacked police officer purchasing properties in Mohali district and other places. Vigilance officials say that properties, bank accounts and other assets of all the family members will be investigated in the case of disproportionate income.
In the nine-page dismissal order issued by the Home Department, the Special Investigation Team (SIT), headed by DGP (retd) Siddharth Chattopadhyaya, to probe the drug smuggling, has made a detailed mention of references made in its reports. The Home Department has termed the activities of Rajjit Singh as serious and said that this police officer has become a front of anti-national elements and those who carry out illegal activities.
The Home Department also says that the SIT reports were under process for the last five years. So a lot of time has already passed. After this action of the Punjab government, there is a consensus in the police. Rajjit Singh has been constantly defended by the top brass of the Punjab Police.
The fact is also evident that during the Congress regime, whenever there was talk of action against Rajjit Singh or other persons, senior police officers used to argue that it would dent the morale of the police force. It is worth mentioning that PCS officer Rajjit Singh was dismissed from service recently by the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for his alleged involvement in drug trade and smugglers.
