Chandigarh: Former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Channi has been summoned by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau in connection with a disproportionate assets case. He has been summoned for questioning at the Mohali headquarters on April 12. Charanjit Singh Channi became the Chief Minister of Punjab after the removal of Captain Amarinder Singh in the Congress government. He remained the CM for about 3 months. Last month, Punjab vigilance had issued a lookout notice against Channi in connection with a disproportionate assets case.

After issuing the out notice, Channi was asked by the Vigilance Bureau not to go abroad. Reacting to this, Channi had said that he was scheduled to visit the USA to attend Guru Ravidas’s program. But he cancelled his flight after vigilance asked him to not leave the country and he is ready to join any investigation.

Apart from the disproportionate assets case, Channi was also accused of using the state exchequer at his private gatherings. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann himself spoke of evidence against Channi during Punjab Assembly session recently.
