Toronto: Peel Regional Police are investigating the case after CA$20 million (€13.5 million, $14.8 million) cargo carrying gold and other valuables were stolen from Toronto’s Pearson International Airport.

Peel Regional Police Inspector Stephen Duivesteyn said a cargo container full of gold and other items was stolen from Pearson Airport on Monday. Peel Police’s Airport Division 21 is investigating the case.

“Our goal is to solve this theft case,” Duivesteyn said. “This is a case of its kind of theft and there is no threat to the public,” he said.

Gold is often transported through Toronto Pearson Airport. Ontario’s RCMP has also informed that their unit is also assisting in this investigation.

The police did not say from where the gold consignment had come from and the robbery that was carried out was not the handiwork of local organised crime gangs.
