London: British drug regulators have become the first in the world to approve the updated Moderna vaccine.

The United Kingdom drug regulators said on Monday it had approved the updated Moderna vaccine against the coronavirus.

“It has proved to be effective on the Omicron variant as well as the original form of the Covid-19 virus,” British regulator said.

The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) said in a statement that it had approved the vaccine for its booster doses for adults. The Moderna vaccine met the UK regulator’s standards of safety, quality and effectiveness. There have also been indications of a strong immune response against the Omicron variant as well as the original form of the virus.

This vaccine generally had mild side effects, similar to the original Moderna vaccine. UK Health authorities said, “The COVID-19 vaccine being used so far in the UK provides significant protection against the disease and saves lives. Corona is also developing with new variants, so this new vaccine will benefit.”

The World Health Organization (WHO) warned in July that the corona epidemic is not going to end yet due to the spread of omicron variant subvariants and relaxation of rules across the globe.
