Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he’s heard the views of the protesters blocking Ottawa streets to protest COVID-19 policies.
And he says the government is not intimidated by those who hurl insults, abuse small business workers, dishonour the memory of veterans and steal food from the homeless.
Trudeau says the views of many of the protesters are a continuation of the disinformation and misinformation we’ve seen online — conspiracy theories about microchips and about — quote — “God knows what else that go with the tinfoil hats.”
The prime minister is isolating at home after he and two of his children tested positive for COVID-19.
I know this pandemic is frustrating. It’s frustrating that, after two years, we’re not done fighting COVID-19. But over the past few days, Canadians have been shocked – and, frankly, disgusted – by the behaviour displayed by some people protesting in our nation’s capital.

This morning, I tested positive for COVID-19. I’m feeling fine – and I’ll continue to work remotely this week while following public health guidelines. Everyone, please get vaccinated and get boosted.
