New Delhi: Various farmers organisation called a Mahapanchayat at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on Monday against unemployment and other demands.

Hundreds of farmers from different states reached Jantar Mantar and protested amid tight security arrangements made by the police.

During this time some farmers were also detained by the police. Farmers were also stopped at the borders with UP and Haryana.

A large number of farmers reached Jantar Mantar, overturning barricades put up by the police.

Additional forces were deployed at all borders, including Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur, in view of the farmers’ protest. At the Ghazipur border, some farmers were detained and taken away in buses.

Heavy deployment of police forces was also seen on railway tracks, bus stations and metro stations. Traffic was also blocked in several parts of the national capital as police examined all vehicles entering Delhi.

The main demands of the farmers are justice to the families of the victims of Lakhimpur Kheri massacre, release of farmers lodged in jails and arrest of Union Minister Ajay Mishra Teni, the main culprit in Lakhimpur Kheri incident.

According to the Swaminathan Commission formula, a law should be made to guarantee MSP. All the farmers of the country should be made debt-free, the electricity bill 2022 should be canceled, the support price of sugarcane should be increased and the arrears of sugarcane should be paid immediately, agitating farmers said.
