Toronto: A 17-year-old boy has been arrested after a student was stabbed at Georgetown District High School on Thursday.

The injured student was taken to the Trauma Center in a helicopter ambulance after he was seriously injured in a violent attack in the class His condition is said to be critical.

Steve Elms, Halton police spokesperson said a masked suspect entered the classroom and attacked a student with a sharp-edged weapon. It is not yet clear whether the attacker was a student of the school or an outsider.

Police said the attack was premeditated but did not give any possible reason. Following this, school was placed under lock down till the evening.

Orange Ambulance said they took the student to the trauma centre in a critical condition. No information has been released about the age and gender of the injured student.

The Halton police wrote in a tweet, “A 17-year-old male was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. Young offender held in custody pending bail hearing.”
