Surrey RCMP is informing the public of a recent spate of package thefts and providing tips to help safeguard deliveries.
Frontline Officers throughout the city have recently received a number of reports involving theft of packages from front porches and doorsteps. These thefts occurred throughout the day and evening hours and in response officers have stepped up their neighbourhood patrols.
On-line shopping and home delivery of packages has steadily increased in popularity. Unfortunately, it has also increased the opportunities for thieves to take advantage of unattended packages and parcels.
In addition to increased policing measures, here are a few tips to help prevent your packages from being stolen:
- Track your packages by text messages or email;
- Tell a family member, a friend or a neighbour to pick up your packages if you are not home;
- Get your packages delivered to a physical location of the company that is delivering your package;
- Install security cameras on your residence;
- Keep an eye out for suspicious activity in your neighborhood and report it to police.
These types of thefts are very disconcerting for people, especially knowing that an unknown person has approached their home often while they were away,
