New Delhi: The Congress party has decided to make Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu the new Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh. Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu’s name was announced after a meeting of the party’s legislature party.

Sukhu and Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri will work as a team after announcing his name as the new CM of the state. “I started politics at the age of 17. I can’t forget what the Congress party has done for me for the rest of my life,” he said.

The special thing is that before Sukhu, the name of Pratibha Singh, the incumbent President of Himachal Congress and wife of former CM Virbhadra Singh, was being said to be the front-runner for the CM’s post, but by Saturday afternoon it was clear that Pratibha Singh was now out of this race.

In Himachal Pradesh, the Congress may have won the election, but there was no consensus in the party on a name for the chief minister. In such a situation, it was reported through sources that Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi can announce the name of the new Chief Minister of Himachal amidst the tussle between the contenders for the post of CM.

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, whom the party leaders have credited for the victory in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections.

Since winning the election, brainstorming started about the CM’s chair in Himachal. As many as 40 Congress MLAs from the state on Friday evening passed the party’s traditional one-line resolution authorising the high command to take a decision.
