Chandigarh: A sub-inspector (SI) was nabbed with heroin by the Punjab STF team in Ludhiana on Wednesday. The accused has been arrested after a trap and heroin worth crores has also been recovered from the him and his two accomplices.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the sub-inspector was running a drug network in the city. The arrested accused sub-inspector has been identified as Harjinder Singh.

The two accomplices have been identified as Harjinder Kaur (35) and Rohit Kumar (20).

AIG Snehdeep Sharma said that the team had received secret information that police personnel Harjinder Singh had heroin in his pocket which was coming from Ladowal. When the employee was stopped at a checking point, 16 grams of heroin was recovered from his pocket. Later, he also revealed about his two accomplices.

The accused, Harjinder Kumar, has also been posted at police station Ladowal earlier. The woman Harjinder Kaur has many cases registered against her in the past. The woman herself consumes drugs. The woman has been associated with the smuggling business for the last 10 years.

Accused Rohit Kumar works in a factory. The accused will be produced in court and remand will be obtained so that big disclosures can be made, police said.

According to officials, the police personnel was running a drug trafficking racket misusing the police uniform. The accused was still wearing a uniform when he was arrested.
