Amritsar: Hindu leader Sudhir Suri shot dead in Punjab’s Amritsar. He was president of Shiv Sena Hindustan. He was protesting outside Gopal Mandir against the desecration of idols when the incident took place.
He was accompanied by his supporters when suddenly shoots were fired upon him. He was admitted to a private hospital in an injured condition where he succumbed to his injuries.
On target of Khalistan supporters
Sudhir Suri was on the target of Khalistan supporters. Recently, he received threats from hardliners sitting abroad.
According to the information received, Sudhir Suri was protesting outside the Gopal temple over the desecration of religious idols. During this time, unidentified youths came and opened fire on them in the afternoon. It is not yet clear whether the bullets were fired from a roof or from front.
In retaliation, his security personnel also fired in the air. The bullets hit Sudhir Suri in the chest. After which he was immediately taken to a private hospital but he could not be saved.
Meanwhile, the police have arrested one assailant, identified by as Sandeep Singh while his aide managed to flee from the spot, officials said.
