Gurdaspur: Shiv Sena Bal Thackeray’s district vice-president Harvinder Soni, who made the controversial statement on Sri Darbar Sahib, was arrested by the police today.

He was produced before the CJM court, which sent the accused to judicial custody for 14 days.

Following the controversial statement, Sikh organizations staged a sit-in protest outside the SSP office in Gurdaspur demanding the arrest of Harvinder Soni.

The situation became tense when some Nihang Singh outfits marched towards Soni’s house.

Sikh organisations continued their agitation even Shiv Sena leader Soni tendered an apology and also a letter was also issued by Shiv Sena’s Punjab president Yograj Sharma to expel Soni from the Shiv Sena. But despite this, the Sikh organizations remained adamant on the demand to register of a case and arrest of Soni.

A case under sections 295A, 504 and 505 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against Soni by the Gurdaspur police late in the evening on November 16.
