Amritsar: A meeting of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has been called to chalk out a future course of action seeking immediate release of Sikh prisoners.

In this meeting, convened under the chairmanship of SGPC SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said that the next outline of the movement for the release of captive Sikhs will be prepared today.

A meeting is being held at Teja Singh Samundri Hall in Golden Temple. All SGPC members are reaching to participate in this. SGPC president Dhami wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the fourth time on Thursday, asking for time.

In this letter, he raised the issue of release of all the Sikhs prisoners who are lansguing in the jail even after completing their sentences. The prisoners include Davinderpal Singh Bhullar, Balwant Singh Rajoana, Jagtar Singh Hawara, Lakhwinder Singh Lakha, Gurmeet Singh, Shamsher Singh, Paramjit Singh Bhora and Jagtar Singh Tara.

On the other hand, politics has heated up over a statement of Union Minister Gajendra Shekhawat on Sikh prisoners’ release.

Shekhawat during his recent visit to Punjab said that only two captive Singh are yet to be released as all the captive Singhs have already been released. He also asked the SGPC to give a re-presentation, after which the SGPC head Dhami has asked Minister Shekhawat to know about the letters sent to PM Modi.
