New Delhi: Several Pro-Khalistan Twitter accounts have been blocked by Indian authorities on Monday. The blocked accounts include the Twitter accounts of Jagmeet Singh, leader of Canada’s New Democratic Party.
The Twitter accounts of Canadian poet Rupi Kaur, voluntary organisation United Sikh and Canada-based activist Gurdeep Singh Sahota have also been blocked in India.
When someone attempts to access these Twitter accounts from India, it says they have been blocked in response to a legal demand.
The development comes at a time when there has been an increase in attacks by Khalistani elements abroad amid Punjab Police’s crackdown on Waris Punjab De outfit and its head Amritpal Singh, a government official said.
Following the vandalism in London, Khalistani supporters allegedly attacked the Indian Consulate in San Francisco.
Visuals shared online showed a huge crowd waving Khalistan flags on wooden pillars and using them to break the glass doors and windows of the consulate building. They raised pro-Khalistan slogans as they broke the temporary security barriers set up by the city police and raised two Khalistani flags inside the complex.
