Vancouver : A man who entered a guilty plea in a crash that claimed the lives of two UBC students in 2021 is scheduled to get his sentencing on Tuesday from a judge.
Tim Goerner entered a guilty plea to two charges of driving while intoxicated. Both the prosecution and the defense are requesting a three-year jail term followed by a five-year driving ban.
Goerner struck 18-year-olds Evan Smith and Emily Selwood with his automobile when they were strolling on a campus sidewalk.
Debbie O’Day-Smith, Smith’s mother, told the court on Monday that she wants Goerner to be honest and accountable and that her sadness over her son’s death is ingrained in her.
