Chandigarh: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Wednesday suspended its senior leader and former SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur from the party for her anti-party activities.
Kaur has opened a front against SAD and its chief Sukhbir Singh Badal and announced to contest the election for president of the SGPC by any means.
Following this, SAD leaders including Surjit Singh Rakhra and Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema held a meeting with her yesterday and submitted the report to the party president.
A meeting of the senior leadership of the SAD was held in Chandigarh today in which the senior leaders have decided to suspended the senior leader from the party, SAD spokesperson and senior leader Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said.
He said that the issue of Bibi Jagir Kaur and Jagmeet Brar was discussed in the disciplinary committee meeting today. Bibi Jagir Kaur had been carrying out activities against the party for a long time and some members had even advised her against it but she continued to defame the party leadership.
According to the information, senior party leader and spokesperson Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema and Surjit Singh Rakhra held an hour-long meeting of with Kaur but she stood by her decision and was adamant on contesting the elections.
Therefore, Bibi Jagir was suspended from the party today. The party had given her 48 hours times to respond in this regard.
Cheema said that discussions were held on Jagmeet Singh Brar, which the leaders were not dissatisfied with, so it was decided to hold another meeting soon. The senior leaders said Bibi Jagir Kaur’s suspension could be reinstated if she announces that she will not contest the election, officials said.
