Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court today granted regular bail to senior Akali leader and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia in a drug case.
A bench of Justices M S Ramachandra Rao and Sureshwar Thakur pronounced the verdict on the bail plea of Majithia.
Majithia, who is lodged in Central Jail Patiala, released from the jail on Wednesday evening. Akali workers welcomed him by showering flowers on him.
Later, Majithia arrived at Gurdwara Sri Dukh Niwaran Sahib to pay obeisance after his release from Central Jail Patiala. A large number of supporters from all over Punjab were also present on the occasion.
Earlier, Majithia had on December 20 last year moved the high court seeking regular bail in the case registered under sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
Former revenue minister, in his plea, had contended that the then Congress government in the state had left no stone unturned to misuse its power and position to take revenge against its political opponents and he was falsely implicated in the case.
He was booked by Charanjit Channi government, just before the assembly elections in a drug case.
