Chandigarh: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has expelled senior leader and former MP Jagmeet Singh Brar from the party. SAD has terminated Brar’s membership for six years for anti-party activities and wrong rhetoric.

Earlier, by 2 pm today, Brar was supposed to reach the party office in Chandigarh and present his case before the disciplinary committee, but Brar did not reach himself and sent a letter.

Disciplinary committee chairman Sikandar Singh Maluka said if action is not taken now, it will harm the party. Due to this, the party has terminated the membership of Jagmeet Singh Brar for 6 years.

It was already believed that Jagmeet Singh Brar would not appear before the disciplinary committee. He was earlier scheduled to appear on December 6, but Brar had taken time from the disciplinary committee on December 10 as he attended the bhog due to the death of an activist. However, Brar later met Giani Harpreet Singh, Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib. He then resigned from all posts of Akali Dal.

Jagmeet Singh Brar has said that he will continue to work to strengthen the party as a common worker. He termed the demand for leadership change in the Akali Dal as the need of the hour.

According to Brar, Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Harpreet Singh has also ordered him to work to strengthen the Akali Dal.

Earlier, SAD spokesperson and senior leader Daljit Singh Cheema had issued a letter to Brar asking him to appear before the disciplinary committee on charges of anti-party activities and wrong rhetoric. First, Brar was given time till December 6 and then on his request, he was given time till December 10.
