Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has granted relief to Bollywood singer Daler Mehndi, who is in jail in a human trafficking case. Staying the conviction by the Patiala High Court, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has allowed daler mehndi bail plea and granted him bail. On July 14, Daler Mehndi was arrested by patiala police. Daler Mehndi, who has been behind bars for the last three months, will finally be able to come out now.

Daler Mehndi was sentenced to two years in jail by a trial court in Patiala in 2018 in a 19-year-old human trafficking case. However, Daler Mehndi was granted bail at that time. But after this, Daler Mehndi filed an appeal before the Additional Sessions Judge of Patiala and challenged it. After hearing the appeal for four years, the court dismissed Daler Mehndi’s appeal on July 14, 2022 and upheld the sentence.

After the dismissal of the appeal, Daler Mehndi had filed a revision petition in the High Court challenging it, which was heard today and the court gave Daler Mehndi a sigh of relief.

What is the whole matter?

The case is 19 years old when a complaint was lodged against Daler Mehndi and his brother Shamsher Singh by one Bakshi Singh at Patiala Sadar police station. Bakshi had alleged that Daler Mehndi and his brother, as members of their troupe, took hefty money to illegally send some people abroad.

According to the first FIR lodged at Sadar police station in 2003, it was alleged that the Mehndi brothers had taken two congregations in 1998 and 1999, during which 10 people were taken to the US as members of the group and illegally left there. After filing the first complaint, the police had received 35 more similar complaints against the singer. In 2018, the judicial magistrate first class court had convicted the brothers and sentenced them to two years in jail. After which he was granted bail.
