Chandigarh: The Vigilance Bureau has issued a lookout circular against former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi. An investigation is underway against Channi for disproportionate assets. According to the information, the notice was issued three days ago and all airports were alerted that Channi could flee abroad.
Recently, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that there is a investigation underway in a corruption case against Channi.
Significantly, Charanjit Singh Channi is accused of embezzling government money. He is accused of grabbing money in the inauguration of the theme park through tourism officials and giving the tender at 20 times higher price. The tender for the theme park was awarded on November 17, 2021. This single tender was allotted for Rs 1.47 crore.
The complaint was given to Punjab Vigilance by Rajwinder Singh of Bathinda. Later, vigilance started investigating the inauguration program of the theme park.
Last year, the ED had questioned Charanjit Singh Channi’s nephew Bhupinder Singh Honey and others in Jalandhar in connection with an illegal sand mining case. The ED had already filed a charge sheet against Honey in this regard.
