Chandigarh: The tussle between Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and Governor Banwarilal Purohit, which started before the Punjab Assembly session, is seems still persistent.

The Governor has now returned the file sent by the Punjab government for the appointment of Vice Chancellor of Baba Farid University to the government.

The Governor has asked the AAP government to send a panel of 3 names for the appointment of VC.

CM did not attend President’s welcome on Air Force Day

On October 8, President Draupadi Murmu arrived at the Sukhna Lake event in Chandigarh. He was accompanied by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Governors of both the states, including the CM of Punjab and Haryana, and Chandigarh MP Kirron Kher had arrived to welcome the President.

But Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann did not attend the event and Governor reprimanded CM saying that he should have fulfilled the constitutional responsibility and protocol.

Mann was campaigning on a tour of Gujarat along with AAP convener and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal.

Cancellation of session adds to tussle

Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann had called the assembly session on September 22 to prove the trust vote. But despite the AAP having 92 MLAs with an absolute majority, Governor Banwarilal Purohit had withdrawn the approval of the session, calling the session only for the trust vote unconstitutional.

After this, AAP MLAs took out a protest march from the Assembly to the Raj Bhawan, accusing the Governor of working at the behest of the BJP.

CM calls session on 27

Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann called the Punjab Assembly session again on September 27 to discuss stubble, electricity and other issues of Punjab. The Punjab Governor gave approved for a session to discuss these issues related to Punjab. But CM Bhagwant Mann brought a confidence motion in the House without informing the Governor and passed it after extending the session for three more days.
