Chandigarh: The Punjab government on Thursday released the list of market committees and chairman of the Municipal Improvement Trust. A controversy has arisen over the chairman of Sri Anandpur Sahib Market Committee included in this list.
Kammikar Singh Dhadi has been appointed as the chairman of Sri Anandpur Sahib Market Committee. Opposition have questioned his appointment and alleged that he is lodged in the jail in an abetment to suicide case.
In a tweet, Khaira wrote, “Shocking that @AamAadmiParty which promised to cleanse politics of criminals couldn’t find a single clean person to be appointed Chairman Market Committee of historic Anandpur Sahib! @BhagwantMann has appointed Kammikar Singh currently in jail u/s 306 abetment to suicide in Fir No 30 of 2023 Ps Kiratpur Sahib. Shame @ArvindKejriwal for promoting criminals in politics.”
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) also condemned chief minister Bhagwant Mann for criminalizing politics by appointing a jail inmate who had been booked under Section 306 for abetting suicide as Chairman of the Anandpur Sahib Market Committee even as it expressed shock that four Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) functionaries had been appointed Chairmen of Improvement Trusts which had been dissolved by the AAP government.
Expressing shock at the collapse of governance in Punjab under AAP reign, senior SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia said “the AAP government has achieved the dubious distinction of touching new lows day after day.”
Asking the chief minister to explain his conduct, Bikram Majithia said “it is not conceivable that the government was not aware of Kammikar’s case especially considering his close proximity to the chief minister. The very fact that he has been appointed Chairman of a Market Committee despite being arrested after being accused of driving a person to commit suicide by jumping into the Bhakra canal speaks of his closeness to the chief minister. ”
“It also sends across a clear message that this anti-people and corrupt government does not care for the law of the land and will do as it wishes regardless of the consequences of its actions on civil society.”
