Chandigarh: In a major action in Police-drug mafia nexus on basis of the three special investigation team (SIT) reports, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday ordered termination of former Moga SSP Rajjit Singh in the drug smuggling case. He has also been dismissed from his job with immediate effect.

CM Mann has also ordered the Punjab Vigilance to probe the assets acquired by Rajjit Singh through smuggling.

These three reports were recently opened by the Punjab and Haryana high court and during a hearing recently Punjab government assured to initiate action.

Earlier, Rajjit Singh had filed an application in the High Court saying that former STF chief Harpreet Singh Sidhu conducted a biased investigation against him in a report submitted before the court.

Later, the High Court had ordered the formation of an SIT comprising DGP Siddharth Chattopadhyay, ADGP Prabhod Kumar and IG Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh and ordered an investigation. The inquiry committee submitted its report to the High Court, while Siddharth Chattopadhyay separately submitted two reports directly to the High Court, which was in a sealed envelope in the High Court.

The state government had said that action was ready on the basis of all three reports on the order of the High Court. According to a report filed by the Punjab government in the High Court, a case was registered against SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia on the charges against him and action to be initiated against other erring people.
